Lyle Detwiler, youth pastor

Lyle has been serving in youth ministry for 13 years and has been our youth pastor for 7 years. Now usually youth pastors aren’t as involved in the lives of the kids as this guy is, he’s invested some serious time into the lives of these kids, he even bought a boat so we can all hang out more. Not only is Lyle our youth pastor, he’s also a very talented artist and photographer, you’ve probably seen him with a camera in one hand at some point. One thing our youth group isn’t is boring and that’s mostly because of Lyle’s ideas, creativity and desire to be led by God. Lyle wants to make sure the kids have fun but that they are also grounded in the Word, you can hear it in the Bible studies we have each week. If he ever asks you where you wanna eat, the correct answer is, “Del Taco!”

Dustin Estel, jr high guy

Dustin has been serving in youth ministry for 6 years and is now our Jr. High guy, and what a perfect job since he’s just a big kid himself! Not only is Dustin our Jr. High guy, but he also brews a mean cup of coffee, that’s right folks he’s a Barrista (or is it Barristo?). Dustin taught himself to play the guitar and now he’s passing that knowledge onto his jr. High worship team, If you don’t have anything to do on Wednesday nights; which you should because there’s church, stop by the Cove and say, “Hi!” I’m sure the Jr. Highers will make you feel welcome, you might even learn something!

Jessica Aldaba, queen of the office

Jessica has been serving in youth ministry for 8 years and is also the administrative assistant to the youth pastor (you know...Lyle). She has one of the toughest jobs and yet she manages to get all of us where we need to be when we need to be there. She is currently doing home-school studies and wants to be a Christian counselor. She is single and likes long walks on the beach (she told me to add this part!!), and she likes to be well taken care of. But seriously, she is a huge blessing to the youth, parents and leaders and we’re thankful that God has placed her here with us. P.S. Kathy Kuhn, souvenir moocher

Kathy has been serving in youth ministry for 6 years. Besides cooking, crocheting, photography and galavanting around Europe...for ministry purposes of course, Kathy loves kids. Hanging out with them, praying for them and teaching them. Kathy also has the ability to remember lots of Bible information, sometimes we call her the human concordance, but sometimes we don’t! We love having this Rachel Ray (you know the 30-minute meals girl on the Food Network) of youth leaders on our team. And if you go on a trip Kathy really likes collecting souvenirs from other peoples travels, actually Kathy just likes getting presents...whenever!!

Mark Knox, Jenni’s husband and the man who can do anything (really!)

Mark has been serving in youth ministry for 5 years. Mark can do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING!! He cooks, he cleans, he builds things, he does electrical work, and if its broken he can fix it. Mark also likes an adventure, so when we go camping his car usually has the most fun when off-roading is involved (this is why we have permission slips...too much fun!!!). Mark is married to Jenni, his high-school sweetheart and they have an adorable son named Joshua. Did i mention that Mark can do ANYTHING? We’re blessed to have this guy on our team and are thankful that God has sent him to us.

Nancy Valencia, detox diet guru

Nancy has been serving in youth ministry for 4 years. Nancy keeps all of us healthy, or at least she tries, and we certainly don’t make it easy on her!! Nancy is one busy lady, she owns her own business/ministry called Overcome, she serves in youth ministry and she also helps out with the children’s ministry. Nancy is also very motivated to teach the girls at youth group that being beautiful in God’s eyes is very different from the world’s idea. She is a blessing and always has the time for a hug and a prayer. Her heart for the kids is visible in her actions and her words, she is a blessing!

Kim Bohnsack, bulletin board princess

Kim has been serving in youth ministry for 2 year. She sings in the choir and she also blesses us with her homemade cookies and rice krispy treats from time to time (THANK YOU!!!). Kim is one of the sweetest youth leaders around, she has a huge heart for the kids and is always ready to spend time with them and just hang out. Kim works at Turning Point Ministries and always has a couple of pictures to show off of her nieces...you should ask to see them. Kim has also designed our new youth bulletin board at the Sanctuary, check it out and see what we’re doing.

Sarah Cheek, once kissed by stryper

Sarah has been serving in youth ministry for 6 years. Sarah adds life to Tuesday nights youth group, she is everyone’s biggest fan and makes the kids feel loved and welcomed. Sarah is also very talented, she’s studying interior design and is a massage therapist, she’s also a mean break-dancer and she can cook too!! Sarah hopes to move to Israel sometime in the future and work as an interior designer, we hope that’s still a ways off because we are blessed to have her here right now.

Danny Gonzales, aka osama

Danny has been serving in the youth ministry for the last year or so and also serves in the family ministry as a co-ordinator. The only thing about this guy, besides that he is a big kid, is that he must be kept away from sharp objects or anything that can cause an injury...because he will get hurt! Danny has a heart for the kids and wants to see them grow and go farther in their walks than they have before. Danny is married to Cristina and together they have 4 kids...all of whom are an active part of the youth group, except Rocky, she’s too young! We’re blessed to have the whole Gonzalez family in youth ministry!

Aaron MacFarlane, dr. pepper

Aaron, one of the newest additions to the youth group, has already found a special spot in the hearts of the kids and youth leaders. His joy is contagious and its hard not to laugh when he’s around. Aaron loves milk, fried cheese and playing NERTZ....maybe because he’s from Minnesota...don’t they have a lot of cheese there? Another thing about Aaron is that because he’s here we get to hang out with his beautiful wife Sabrina, who serves in the children’s ministry. We’re looking forward to seeing how God uses these two in our youth ministry!
